Dear Members and Friends of the ABS!
|
“If we want everything to stay the way it is, everything has to change all the time”. This well-known quote, attributed to Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, applies to many areas.
|
If we want to maintain peace in Europe, the European institutions must change. When this happens, we all need to change to hold on to concepts that we have become used to but may no longer be future-orientated. Suppose we would like to live in peace with our immediate fellow human beings, we have to keep changing our opinions, as the last few years have shown us, since we have been faced with plenty of potential for conflict over health issues.

For the ABS to remain as successful as it is now, it must also evolve. The ABS, however, is not just the board members but all members. Therefore, we are pleased that some of you are actively involved in this process for the future within the framework of the working groups—and we are pleased about each and every member who wants to contribute to the further development of the ABS and its service portfolio. Because one thing is certain: peace is promoted, among other things, through bilateral dialogue. We have dedicated ourselves to this mission and want to fulfil it - as in the past, so today and in the future, when a new generation is increasingly shaping the destiny of our society as a whole.

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE

|
Die ABS-Arbeitsgruppen sind bereits aktiv!
|
Die zuletzt angekündigten drei ABS Arbeitsgruppen haben ihre Arbeit bereits aufgenommen. Erste konkrete Ergebnisse liegen vor und Vorschläge wurden bereits erarbeitet, die nun evaluiert werden. Darüber möchte ich Sie heute gerne informieren:

- Die ABS überlegt, dem erfolgreichen Beispiel anderer Gesellschaften zu folgen, und die Gründung einer ABS Jugendorganisation vorantreiben. Der "Österreichische Alpenverein", die "Österreichische Gesellschaft für Außenpolitik und Vereinte Nationen" und weitere haben bewiesen, dass dies ein probates Mittel ist, um jüngere Menschen für Ihre Organisationen zu gewinnen. In den nächsten Sitzungen der Arbeitsgruppe wird dieser Vorschlag weiter ausgearbeitet werden.
- Unterstützt könnte dieses Vorhaben auch durch den ergänzenden Aufbau eigener Social Media Accounts werden, mit Content, der speziell darauf ausgerichtet ist, eine jüngere Zielgruppe zu attraktivieren.
- In den letzten Jahren ist eine Lücke entstanden und die ABS überlegt nun, wie sie diese schließen könnte: Durch den Aufbau einer "Commerce & Trade Section" innerhalb der ABS könnte ein Schwerpunkt für kommerzielle Interessenten gesetzt. Früher war dies die Kernkompetenz der Austro British Chamber, die allerdings nicht mehr aktiv ist. Da der Bedarf aber existiert und die ABS sogar bereits jetzt einige Aktivitäten in diesem Bereich setzt, könnte dieser ganz bewusst forciert werden.
Die Arbeitsgruppen arbeiten autark, selbstorganisiert und haben ohne Zeitvorgabe ausschließlich die Zielsetzung, konkrete Vorschläge für den Vorstand zu erarbeiten. Wer immer sich in diesen Prozess konstruktiv einbringen möchte, ist nach wie vor herzlich willkommen und Sie sind eingeladen, den untenstehenden Link zu klicken. Möge die Übung gelingen und ich freue mich auf Ihr Interesse!

Im April bot Ihnen die Austro-British Society wieder drei Möglichkeiten um einander zu treffen und für positive Stimmung in so schwierigen Zeiten zu sorgen. Wir bieten Ihnen hier die Zusammenfassung der April-Events:

Event 1: Von Nicäa auf den Georg Coch Platz
|
- Am Gründonnerstag, dem 14. April 2022, lud die ABS zum ersten Englischen Osterfest. Der Dresscode "Blau-Gelb" als Solidaritätszeichen für die Ukraine zeigte, dass man trotz zum Ausdruck gebrachter Lebensfreude auch im Bewusstsein für die schwierigen Situationen in unmittelbarer Nähe lebt.

- Am 21. April 2022 lud Aston Martin Wien, repräsentiert von Geschäftsführer Stefan Ziegelbauer, die Member der ABS zum exklusiven und eleganten Get-together.

Event 3: The World has changed - where does the UK stand?
|
- Am 27. April 2022 begrüßte die ABS ihre Mitglieder in der Diplomatischen Akademie zur Wissensvermittlung über die aktuelle Post-Brexit-Situation, bei der Prof. Melanie Sully und Botschafter a.D. Colin Munro referierten. Die Inputs des leider erkrankten ABS Vizepräsidenten, Botschafter a.D. Dr. Alexander Christiani, flossen ebenfalls ein, der sein Statement dankenswerterweise in schriftlicher Form übermittelte.

As already brought to your attention in the last edition of our ABS News and as already submitted via email, this particular trip is organised by the Austro-British Society:

- From May 22nd to 24th, 2022, including a visit to the Fuller's Brewery and the fabulous Beefeater Gin Distillery, the Premier League match Chelsea vs Watford, and a visit to the Houses of Parliament with Sir Peter Bottomley, MP, who will show us this incredible building in detail, followed by a visit to the House of Commons and a visit to the City of London to meet David Marsh for a special lecture, as he is the Chairman of the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum.

The ABS is going to visit the Museum of Military History.
|
Austria, once an Empire, was used to act as a significant factor of power on the continent and the world in those days. But in 1918, this came to a sudden end. Yet what did happen?
|
- On May 3rd, 2022, the Director of the Museum of Military History, Dr Mario Christian Ortner, welcomes members of the ABS to the historical premises for a lecture about the circumstances which led to the end of the Austrian Empire.

Supply Chain Disruptions in Turbulent Times

- On May 13th, 2022, we are guests in the architecturally outstanding Vienna University of Economics and Business and welcome Univ. Prof. Dr. Sebastian Kummer, Head of the Institute of Logistic Science, and expecting his lecture on "Supply Chain Disruptions in Turbulent Times".

Fearing the fear of the President
|
OMG, positive? Really?? It must be an error… but as it's a high-quality PCR test, any doubt is good for nothing... Hence, quarantine. But stop: How many days? 10, but after 5, you have a chance to test, and if negative, you are free… The exclusive Aston Martin-ABS-Event with very limited guests is on my quarantine day number 9... Should work...
|
Day 7: Home-Selftest shows no result, nor on Day 8 - all good. No need to cancel my participation. Just take a PCR test, and it's all good. And I'm waiting for the result, and still waiting for it, and waiting... OMG... it's noon on day 9 and if I do not get the result in time, my President, having various members on the waiting list, gets crazy. But fearing the fear turned out to be needless: Obviously understanding that this is out of my control, he just replied: “It is how it is - we can't change it”. Another moment, where the President surprises me, as he constantly does - obviously a habit of Presidents…

|

Nahallo Projekt belohnt PendlerInnen am Weg zur Arbeit
|
Ein gratis Parkplatz, Mitfahrgarantie bei Fahrtausfall und bares Geld für Fahrgemeinschaften! - Das alles ermöglicht das nahallo Projekt. Am Montag starteten startete das nahallo Projekt in Korneuburg und Wiener Neustadt, welches in Kooperation mit dem Verkehrsverbund Ost Region, der ÖBB und der Asfinag umgesetzt wird. Große Unterstützung erhielt die neue Art zu pendeln vom Bundesministerium für Klima und Umwelt, Energie, Mobilität, Innovation und Technologie, sowie dem Land Niederösterreich.

Starke Partner für innovatives Projekt
|
Mit der ummadum Community nahallo soll es gelingen durch positive Anreize, wie beispielsweise einen gesicherten Parkplatz und ein gratis Taxi bei Fahrtausfall, unnötigen Individualverkehr zu vermeiden, PendlerInnen für Ridesharing zu belohnen und schließlich zum Umstieg in die öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel zu motivieren. Auf diese Weise wird hohen Spritkosten entgegengewirkt und gleichzeitig die Umwelt und die öffentlichen Hand entlastet.

Smart Mobility aus Österreich
|
Die technische Umsetzung des Projekts übernimmt ummadum. Das auf Mitarbeitermobilität spezialisierte Unternehmen und ABS-Corporate Member wurde 2018 in Österreich gegründet und unterstützt Betriebe dabei, nachweislich CO2 zu reduzieren, indem sie mit der gleichnamigen App die Mobilität der Belegschaft nachhaltig gestaltet. Mit dem Motto “Dein Weg lohnt sich” erhalten MitarbeiterInnen für Radfahren, zufußgehen oder Pendeln Punkte, die bei Einlösestellen gegen Waren oder Gutscheine getauscht werden können.
