EDITORIAL

Dear Members and Friends of the ABS,

These are turbulent times — not only geopolitically, across the EU, and in the now customary federal government squabbles, but also in the various recognised and often unnoticed disasters and war hotspots around the world. All of this may affect us, but we are just observers watching from the sidelines, often shaking our heads. From time to time, we are allowed to shout something onto the pitch (to use a very appropriate football term) — whereby we often have the feeling that our heckling (called "elections") sometimes changes the line-up on the pitch, but generally the players seem to ignore us and still play their game as they please.

It is therefore all the more important that we keep an eye on ourselves and our mental health. Our jobs may demand more of us than they did a few years ago, family challenges may have arisen due to the advancing age of our parents or changes in our children's life situations, and we ourselves may no longer be as capable as we were when we were younger. That's why we should all consciously say to ourselves: it's summer now! This is a time to relax, let go, and recharge our batteries. Let's use this time to recharge our energy stores, because they will definitely be in greater demand again in autumn.

The Bible already shows us the connection between our ability to be there for others and our own well-being. When asked what the most important commandment is, Jesus says: "Love God... and love your neighbour AS YOURSELF." May we not forget this often overlooked part of the Christian commandment. With this in mind: Enjoy the summer!

Warm regards,
Yours Jochen Ressel,
ABS Secretary General & ABS News Editor-in-Chief

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE

Valueable Advice

We’ve already made it through the first half of the year. We were able to offer many attractive events, and we’re delighted that our members participated in such large numbers. With six events in June alone, we’ve just experienced a record-breaking peak together. Now, it’s time for all of us to indulge in some relaxation and summer holidays. This is especially true for our older and more mature members.

Speaking of older members, I intentionally won't specify an age. However, I’d like to offer some advice for the young at heart and those preparing for it:

Three things to forget:
  • Age
  • The past
  • Ailments
Three important things:
  • Friends
  • Positive thoughts
  • A calm and welcoming home
Three significant actions:
  • Smile and laugh a lot!
  • Exercise your body and mind, but only at your own pace
  • Spend more time with friends – not just with relatives
As always, I wish you much success and joy in implementing these – may the practice succeed!
