EDITORIAL

Dear Members and Friends of the ABS!

I know it: The header I have chosen above is an October image, but I don't want to place a snowy picture there already. We are most likely enjoying the sunny days November is still providing us before the really chilly season starts.

The more the weather gets colder, the more warmth is needed between us. We are heading towards Christmas, often called the feast of love and kindness. But there is no need to wait for the Christmas season to start expressing this attitude. The ongoing Covid19 situation requires compassion and understanding from all of us. We are mentally heavily stressed by years of hardly any other topic filling our minds daily with an incredible volume of information with no chance to judge them on being right or wrong. This is a mental burden for many of us, affecting our emotional setup. So it's not the time to judge others' opinions and challenge each other of being vaccinated or not getting vaccinated - especially if we do not know all individual backgrounds of possible incompatibilities with other health influencing factors. It's time to look after each other and take care of ourselves and our friend's mental and physical well-being.

Hence, this is the opportunity to say "Thank you" that all of you accept the Covid19 prevention rules for our ABS Events, and we trust you will do so also in future - whatever the legal framework might be. And my thanks are also going to all of you for treating each other with respect when we meet - also as probably everybody of us has an individual opinion about the pandemic and the measures taken against it.

Therefore, let us continue to strengthen ourselves instead of arguing different points of view. Enjoy our events as they give you lots of other reasons to talk with each other! And most importantly: Stay safe and healthy!

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE

The all importance of the ABS Pin!

Wie immer bleibe ich in meiner präsidialen Kolumne der ABS News bei der deutschen Sprache. Als ich mir neuerdings wieder alle Postings der letzten Wochen auf Homepage, Facebook und Instagram in Ruhe durchgesehen habe, machte ich eine interessante Beobachtung... Guess which one?

Neue Mitglieder sind mit Stolz erfüllt, wenn sie ihren ABS Pin in Empfang nehmen. Als Präsident hatte ich in den nunmehr bereits 12 Jahren die Freude, hunderte (!) von Pins zu verteilen - aber bei unseren Events sehe ich leider nur wenige...

Einige tragen die Pins vorbildhaft jedes mal. Einige unserer Vorstandsmitglieder tragen auch deren Namensschilder zur Orientierung für unsere Gäste, doch einige BesucherInnen tragen die Pins selten und manche sogar nie. Ich selbst trage ihn bei jedem ABS Event mit Stolz .

Daher freut es mich, wenn ich künftig bei den ABS Event-BesucherInnen wieder öfter mit unserem Pin sehe - bei unseren Members, wie auch bei Vorstandsmitgliedern. Auch diese Ausgabe der ABS News zeigt einmal mehr, dass es viele Gründe gibt, sich auch in der Öffentlichkeit stolz als Teil unserer ehrenwerten Gesellschaft zu präsentieren. Herzlichen Dank für Ihre Unterstützung!

A short remark: If you do not receive one or another invitation, it might have to do with the fact that the ABS organises some exclusive events for Corporate Members only - which needs the explanation that being a Corporate Member does not require you to run a company. ABS POLICY PAPER NO. 26

"Crime, justice & security co-operation with the EU after Brexit"

Mit dem ABS POLICY PAPER No. 26 über die künftige Kooperation zwischen dem Vereinigten Königreich und der Europäischen Union über den Bereich JUSTIZ & INNERES schließt die ABS ihre umfassende Darstellung des Bexit zumindest bis auf weiteres ab.

Nicht nur unseren Mitgliedern, sondern auch einer interessierten Öffentlichkeit wird mit diesen Policy Papers eine umfassende und detaillierte Dokumentation aller nur denkbaren Aspekte und Konsequenzen des Austritts des Vereinigten Königreiches aus der Europäischen Union zur Verfügung gestellt. Viele Details des jahrelangen Dramas sind heute nicht mehr erinnerlich - nahezu jeder Verhandlungsschritt wird ebenso nachgezeichnet wie die politischen Konsequenzen und die Zukunft Großbritanniens als Drittstaat außerhalb der EU. Aber nicht nur die Vergangenheit, auch die mögliche Zukunft der gegenseitigen Beziehungen wird beleuchtet.

Die Österreichisch- Britische Gesellschaft sieht es als eine ihrer wesentlichsten Aufgaben an, dass die Beurteilung dieses bedeutenden und traditionsreichen Landes in Europa auf der Basis von Fakten und nicht von Vorurteilen erfolgt.
