EDITORIAL

Dear Members and Friends of the ABS,

A new year almost inevitably brings with it New Year’s resolutions. Usually, they become obsolete just five minutes after midnight on 1 January 2025. One strategy could be to make your resolutions on 2 January 2025 instead; another is to choose resolutions that you are confident you can implement. These approaches will help you avoid personal disappointment!

We, the ABS Board member team, decided to wait until after the holidays to present our New Year’s resolution for 2025: We aim to surpass 2024 – not necessarily in terms of quantity, but certainly in the quality of what we offer you. This means even better ABS Blogs, more comprehensive ABS Policy Papers, more exclusive ABS trips, and an even more attractive and diverse range of ABS Events.

Everyone who experienced the ABS in 2024 knows what this resolution entails – it will be an incredible challenge that we are eager to undertake for you, our highly valued members. Here’s to a successful 2025 together!

Warm regards,
Yours Jochen Ressel,
ABS Secretary General & ABS News Editor-in-Chief

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE

The Secret Of Travel

As the New Year begins, it’s a time for resolutions and plans for the future. I’ve been fortunate to travel the world for decades, both professionally and privately, and continue to do so with ABS. Over the past 14 years since our re-establishment, we’ve organised nearly 20 international trips, 15 of which have taken us to the UK. These often included exclusive programmes, such as visits to Ascot, Glyndebourne, Queen Mary II, Last Night of the Proms, Rolls Royce, Chelsea Flower Show, Red Bull, McLaren, numerous Premier League matches, and more.

Now, it’s time to eliminate a few blank spots on my global map. Recently, we had the chance to enjoy dream destinations like Uganda and Costa Rica. This year, Cornwall and Aston Martin are planned for late May (several registrations are already in), followed by Saudi Arabia in October, exploring both tradition and modernity. Since dreaming a little about the future is allowed, Botswana with the Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls is on my wishlist for 2026, and Mongolia for 2027. Perhaps some of you would like to join me in dreaming - it doesn’t hurt and only brings a sense of wellbeing.

Wellbeing is the key word here. Why do I take on the significant effort of organising group trips? What is the secret of travel - especially when shared with like-minded companions?

Getting to know new countries and people, enjoying unfamiliar flora and fauna, and experiencing the unexpected (as the saying goes, “There’s nothing that doesn’t exist”) is part of the secret. But for me, the core of this secret lies in the profound encounters: meeting fascinating people of all religions, cultures, and worldviews; engaging with their diverse philosophies and deeply personal beliefs; and interacting with individuals from all walks of life. These encounters over decades of travel have left a lasting impression on me, shaping my outlook on the world - and they continue to do so to this day!

Best wishes,

Prof KR Dr Kurt Tiroch
ABS President

Travelling To Far-Off Countries - Celebrating In Vienna

In December, the ABS managed to combine both aspects: on the one hand, a journey to a country with different cultures and customs, and on the other, the nurturing of our local Christmas traditions by hosting a fantastic event in Vienna. Here, you will find summaries and photos of these two December highlights. Enjoy reading and browsing through the photos!

ABS HOROSCOPE 2025

What a Hososcope Is All About

The planets may indicate tendencies – but it is up to us to decide how we respond to them and what we make of them! Strengthen positive constellations through appropriate actions, seize opportunities, and view challenging constellations as invitations to reassess your life and set things in order. Remember, crises can also be opportunities.

‘Many people miss out on small pleasures while they are waiting for the big ones.’ Pearl S. Buck

I wish you good health, happiness, success, and many enjoyable moments with family and friends in 2025.

Yours
Eva Vaskovich- Fidelsberger
