EDITORIAL

Dear Members and Friends of the ABS,

It’s already the first quarter of 2024, which we all have hopefully successfully completed. As I like to call it, the “Superbowl of Christian faith,” Easter is a period of joy and relaxation, a time for gathering with our friends and families to celebrate and in the meanwhile, this period is over as well.

It was planned that this message reaches you before the Easter Season, but due to reasons mentioned in another article of this edition of ABS News, the digitalisation made it impossible to submit it. Nevertheless, what we wish you and your families is still valid, as the Easter Season lasts until Pentacost:

May this time of the year fill your heart with love, peace, and renewed hope. May these special days bring you blessings of faith, happiness, and the beauty of new beginnings. Happy Easter Season to you and your loved ones!

Warm regards,
Yours Jochen Ressel,
ABS Secretary General & ABS News Editor-in-Chief

OUT OF ORDER

The challenges we faced the last weeks

We regret to inform you that we have encountered a serious technical issue. Our website and the event/membership administration system, housed in a datacenter in Strasbourg, were affected by a water and fire incident. Unfortunately, our service provider did not notify us for 7 days, and upon assessment, we found a damaged filesystem on the server, resulting in the loss of nearly all our backups.

Our ABS Corporate and Board member, Fridolin Richter from nu:media, diligently explored our options and successfully restored almost everything, with some manual assistance from fellow board members. We are pleased to announce that we are back online. However, if you continue to experience any disruptions, please bear with us as we are actively addressing them.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this challenging time.

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE

The glass is half full or half empty

During her fascinating lecture on international diplomacy, Ambassador Dr. Eva Nowotny mentioned that she regularly looks optimistically towards the future and for her, the glass is always half full and not half empty.

That is my keyword for today, as for me, the glass has always been half full and not half empty - even if it sometimes turns out quite differently afterwards. This optimism is surely related to genetics, but also to a corresponding attitude that everyone can influence. Current studies confirm a connection between a positive outlook on life and reaching old age. Optimists recover more easily from stressful situations and experience positive effects on physical health, which can lead to more healthy years of life.

The reasons for this are assumed in the studies to be that optimists experience less extreme emotional ups and downs and possess better skills to regulate their emotions in difficult situations through cognitive processes, perceiving them more as challenges than threats.

Let us together, despite all the current crises and problems worldwide - or are they rather challenges after all - find or strengthen an optimistic approach. May the exercise succeed for you!

SHOCKING ROYAL CHALLENGES

Global Sympathy for the Royal Family

In the realm of global affairs, few institutions carry as much intrigue, tradition, and scrutiny as the British Royal Family. With a lineage stretching back centuries and a prominent place in modern media, the Royals are both a symbol of continuity and a subject of intense fascination. Yet, behind the official duties and public appearances, the family grapples with significant challenges that currently touch people around the globe.
The King’s Health Status

While the exact nature of His Majesty’s condition has not been disclosed by the Royal medical team, it is understood that King Charles III is under their close supervision and receiving appropriate treatment for cancer, which was diagnosed during a prostate operation. The exact form of cancer the King is suffering from remains undisclosed. So far, only the palace and the Queen have made public statements.

"Her husband is doing extremely well, given the circumstances," explained Queen Camilla. The Royal Palace has assured the nation that despite this setback, the King's duties and responsibilities are being managed by the appropriate channels, ensuring the smooth continuation of state affairs.

Undoubtedly, this illness is something that hardly anyone would have wished upon him - now that he is finally King, this is tragic news indeed. Without doubt, we all wish His Majesty the best possible recovery and plenty of strength to overcome this challenge!
The Princess of Wales’ Message Shocks the World

Traditional and digital media have been rife with speculation and even insinuations in recent weeks about the Princess of Wales’ situation. Rumours of a break-up with the Prince of Wales have even circulated due to her absence from public view following her abdominal surgery.

The same media outlets are now filled with reports about the shocking news that the Princess shared via video on various channels: She also has cancer and is now beginning her "preventative chemotherapy," as she put it. Due to her incredible popularity, the worldwide outpouring of sympathy for the Royal Family has been overwhelming, as confirmed in an official Palace statement. After Prince William and his brother had to mourn the tragic loss of their mother at a young age, the whole world hopes that Catherine can beat cancer and that her three adorable children can experience the joy of a long life with their mum.

May the strength and resilience that define her Royal character guide her through this difficult journey. Our thoughts are with her, and we pray for her comfort, courage, and complete recovery.
